What will happen if I get my mood ring wet

Question:

I have a really nice mood ring that I wear on my finger all the time.  When I wash my hands, it gets wet.  When the water is warm, the mood ring changes color.  Is this damaging my mood ring?

Answer:

Some mood rings are better made than others.  If you have already gotten your mood ring wet and have seen no ill effects, then you are probably okay.  Notice the color of the mood ring before washing your hands.  As long as the mood ring turns back to it’s original color after washing your hands, you should be fine.

There are some cases, however, where I have seen mood rings damaged by washing hands in extremely hot water.  Sudden and dramatic temperature changes can damage a mood ring.  If you feel the need to wash hands in very hot (or very cold) water, it may be a good idea to take the ring off before washing.

The same goes for swimming.  If you plan on submerging your mood ring in water for a long period of time, it may be a good idea to take the ring off first.  Not only do you run more of a risk of getting water in the ring (under the stone, typically), but there is also a chance of destroying the thermochromatic properties of the ring.

I hope this information answers your question and helps you prolong the useful life of your mood ring.
