Can a mood ring predict the future?

Someone once told me that a mood ring can tell you what will happen in the future.  They said that, basically, you ask a yes or no question and then focus and concentrate on the mood ring.  If the mood ring stays the same color, the answer is no.  If the answer is yes, the mood ring will suddenly turn a darker or lighter shade.  I have tried this method of “fortune telling” and I have seen it work with my own eyes!  What do you think about this?  Have you ever tried it?

This is the first I have heard of this.

Although I like to keep my mind open to all possibility, I have seen no evidence of this phenomenon.

A mood ring is all about the present moment, and reflects your state of mind in the present moment.

Mood rings are REactive – not PROactive.  There is a big difference.

If you were to feel stressed, the mood ring would change colors (typically a dark red or black) at the moment you begin feeling the stress – not before.  If you were to see your mood ring turn to black before you got stressed, you might actually become stressed from knowing that something stressful was about to happen.  In other words, it would be a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts.

Exploring the Past

Therapists have, however, used hand/finger temperature-based biofeedback to work through a person’s hurtful experiences of the past.  But, they do this using memories.

Here’s how it works:

A therapist will ask a patient to think about a certain event in their past that was especially hurtful to them.  It could be a conflict between them and a spouse or a parent, or something they are worried about.  The therapist then monitors the temperature drop in the hands.  The lower the drop in hand/finger temperature, the more stressful or hurtful the memory.

Here’s a Possibility…

Perhaps the mood ring “fortune telling” you spoke of in your question is similar to the method the therapists use in uncovering hurtful memories.

Consider this scenario for a moment:

You ask your mood ring a yes or no question.  But, you don’t really care what the outcome is.  You’d be fine either way.  The mood ring stays the same color, and you consider the answer to be no.

Then, you ask your mood ring a yes or no question that you are very concerned about.  It’s a “life or death” question, or a query that involves a very meaningful relationship.  The mere act of being so worried about the answer could cause a moderate degree of stress.

The more critical the question is, the more emotional you become.  Therefore, the temperature of your hands begin to drop because of the stress.  When your mood ring slowly begins changing color, you become even more stressed.  Suddenly, your mood ring color shifts dramatically, and you consider this a definitive “yes” answer to your original question.

Do you see how this mood ring “fortune telling” can be very subjective to how you feel about the question and/or answer?  The mood ring is simply doing it’s job, and reflecting the mood of the wearer.

This does not mean that I have anything against psychics, shamans, clairvoyants, healers, aura readers, dream interpreters or anyone else who may possibly be “tapping” into a power that is far greater than our cold, secular, technology-based world.

As I said before, I am open to many ideas and possibilities.  It’s just that in this particular instance, your emotions may be affecting your mood ring color more than any supernatural force.

Thanks again for the question, and I hope this answer helped.
